The Yet Machine
Choose something you are still learning. Turn the crank. Out comes the same sentence with one small word added: yet. Then plant it on your Yet Wall, and come back to celebrate when it comes true.
Add one small word: yet
This tool needs JavaScript to run the machine. You can still do it on paper: write down something you are learning, such as “I can’t ride a bike”, then add “… yet” and write one tiny step you could try.
1. Choose something you are still learning
These are things we can practise and get better at. You do not have to choose one.
Choose a thought above, then turn the crank.
2. Out it comes
You can stop at any time. Nothing is lost if you do. If something feels heavy, please tell a trusted grown-up. This machine is a game for learning new skills.
Your Yet Wall
Nothing here… yet. Your first card will grow here.
When a “yet” comes true, tap “I did it!” and the card turns gold. Your wall is kept in this browser, on this device only, and holds twelve cards. On a shared device? Clear what is saved.
One little word, a lot of room
Learning takes time
“I can’t” sounds like a closed door. “I can’t… yet” is the same door, open a crack. It is the HeartWise idea of the Seed, the Growth Mindset Pillar.
A tiny step is plenty
Big goals feel heavy. A tiny step, such as two minutes of trying, is easy to begin and easy to repeat.
Your wall becomes proof
Each gold card is something you once could not do, and now can. Look at the wall on a hard day.
How does the machine decide?
It is not clever and it does not read your mind. It only uses a short list of skills that children are often still learning, such as riding a bike or reading a new word, and it adds “yet”. You cannot type your own words into it, so it can never answer something personal.
A kind note. “Yet” is for skills we can practise. It is never for feelings, for saying “no” or for staying safe. If something feels very heavy or frightening, please tell a trusted grown-up or a qualified professional.
